Membership
Wine Tastings
As a member you will have access to our nine monthly tasting events. At each session a wine supplier will provide a number of ones for tasting along with information on the wines and their production. These presentations are very informative for people like yourself who wish to learn more about wine. A list of the upcoming tasting dates is published on our web site.
Wine Orders
At each wine tasting event you will have the opportunity to order wines from our presenters. Often the wines presented and available for order are not available in the LCBO. Wine is delivered to a single location to save costs to the members and increase efficiency for the winery/distributor. Most wines must be sold in full cases so you will often see a note go out after the orders are received to see if we can make up the cases. This is done on a first come, first served basis so if you are interested you must respond quickly. Orders must include credit card information (Visa or Mastercard only). We require your name and the expiry date of the card. All correspondence for wine sales is by email only as OWEC is an email-based club. Its a good idea to track your order information so that you know what you ordered. Wine must be picked on one of the 2 or 3 dates provided. It is fine to send someone else to pick up your order if you can’t make it. Many club members also help each other out with this.
Confirmation of Attendance
Members are required to confirm in advance if they will be attending each tasting event. We often have requests from our members to bring along guests and since our seating is limited, we need to know well in advance if you will, or will not be attending in order to accommodate these requests. An email reminder will also be sent out in advance requesting your confirmation of attendance: your prompt response would be very much appreciated!
Wine Glasses
Most members bring Waterford crystal wine glasses (1 red and 1 white) for tasting. This greatly enhances appreciation of the wine. Basic wiine glasses are provided for members and guests.
Special Events
From time to time throughout the year we also plan a number of special events outside of our regular scheduled tastings. Information on these special events will be posted on our website, as well as being communicated at meetings and through emails. All events are available on a first come, first served basis..
Renewal
The financial success of the Club depends on full membership. Our membership year runs from January to December each year. Current members have first right of renewal and will be sent an email in September of each year, reminding them of the deadline to renew. Payment is by cheque or bank draft only (no cash) and MUST be mailed or dropped off to the address shown on the renewal form. Members who do not renew by the deadline are NOT guaranteed a membership for the coming year, since registration at that point will be open to new members on a first paid, first served basis.
