Puddicombe Farms Winery September 29, 2006
September 29th marked the first club trip for the OWEC in 2006, with some 40 odd members climbing aboard a “cheese wagon” to head to Winona, Ontario for an afternoon and evening of wine tasting and dining at the Puddicombe Farm Winery.
The cool weather was offset by the warm hospitality and charm of our knowledgeable hosts at the winery. After a quick cocktail and orientation in their café area, we were led to a soon to be renovated Pullman Railcar (circa 1920) where we were treated to appetizers and wine tasting facilitated by the granddaughter of the Puddicombe farm’s founder. We then went back to private room in the main building to enjoy a home-style roast beef dinner that was certain not to be too rare for anyone’s taste.
The evening ended where it started in the café area with coffee, homemade pie, and an interesting apple based desert wine. Our return trip on the “cheese wagon”, no doubt aided by our evening libations, was reminiscent of a school trip from our youths with plenty of singing, laughter and carrying on - much to the chagrin of our bus driver Dave!
Based on the success of the Puddicombe event, we will certainly be holding more excursions in the months ahead… stay tuned!
